Visual and Performing Arts

The Visual & Performing (VAPA) Arts Department offers a rich array of courses designed to foster creative expression, technical skill, and critical thinking. Whether you are creating in the studio or performing on the stage, our curriculum provides a supportive environment for students to explore their artistic passion while completing their UC/CSU A-G graduation requirements (Visual and Performing Arts - "F" requirement).
Visual Arts
Our visual arts program allows students to experiment with diverse mediums, master foundational techniques, and build comprehensive portfolios suitable for advanced study or personal development.

Studio Art: An introductory course exploring the fundamentals of drawing, design, and color theory using various media.

Painting: Focuses on color mixing, brushwork techniques, and composition using various painting materials.

Ceramics: Hands-on instruction in hand-building techniques, wheel throwing, surface decoration, and glazing.

Advanced Ceramics: Specialized study in advanced ceramic techniques, complex structural design, and custom glaze experimentation.

AP Art History: An in-depth, college-level exploration of global visual culture and art history from prehistory to the present.

AP Studio Art: A rigorous portfolio-based course where students develop a focused body of work demonstrating high-level concept and technique.

Performing Arts
Our performing arts courses provide dynamic opportunities in movement, musical performance, theatrical production, and technical design, encouraging both group collaboration and individual excellence.
Dance

Dance I–III: Progressive levels of dance instruction covering modern, contemporary, jazz, and ballet techniques, along with choreography principles and performance opportunities.
Music
- Beginning & Advanced Percussion Ensemble: Students in this course perform in the percussion section for the AGHS Eagle Marching Band, as well as perform as the concert percussion section with Concert Band and Wind Ensemble. Additionally, the percussion ensemble studies and performs concert percussion ensemble literature.
- Concert Band: This ensemble is for any students that study a woodwind or brass instrument. Students perform as part of the AGHS Eagle Marching Band during the fall, and study and perform concert wind band literature during the spring semester.
- Wind Ensemble: This ensemble is an audition only group made up of advanced woodwind and brass musicians. Wind Ensemble students perform as part of the AGHS Eagle Marching Band in the fall, and study and perform advanced Wind Ensemble literature in the Spring semester.
- Dual Enrollment (DE) Music Appreciation: A college-level course offering transferable credit while studying the history of music.
Theater & Stage Technology

Intro, Intermediate, and Advanced Professional Theater: A comprehensive acting track covering character analysis, stage movement, scriptwriting, audition preparation, and live theatrical performance.

Intermediate & Advanced Stage Technology: Practical, hands-on experience in the technical aspects of theater, including lighting design, sound engineering, set construction, and stage management.
