The Evans Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for high-achieving caddies with limited financial means. To qualify, caddies must meet the requirements of having a strong caddie record (minimum 2 years), excellent academics, demonstrated financial need, and outstanding character.
The golf courses in our area do not have caddy programs. To address ours and similar areas, the WGA has developed the Caddy Academy Program.
The mission of the WGA Caddie Academy is to provide summer caddie opportunities to at-promise high school students who excel in the classroom and in their communities. We seek to use caddying, the game of golf, and the Evans Scholarship to prepare young men and women for a lifetime of success. In a typical summer, students from across the United States attend one of it's seven chapters to caddie while living together under the guidance of current Evans Scholars. The program runs for seven weeks from mid-June through early August.
To obtain the required number of rounds caddying, it typically takes 3 summers, starting after the freshman year.
